Fast Food vs Slow Food
Fast food consumption has skyrocketed over the years. Americans are eating outside of the home on a regular basis, in fact billions of dollars are spent yearly on different types of fast food. With this increase in fast food consumption has been the increase in obesity. It is no wonder much of the foods severed at fast food restaurants are loaded with fats, calories, sodium and sugar. Fast Food has become a way of life for many due to their demanding schedules. It has been shown that fast food consumption is linked to many health problems including: high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Even though American’s know that fast food can cause health issues billions of American’s are dependent on Fast Food meals.
Carlo Petrini went to war against fast food and founded the organization The Slow Food Movement. The purpose of this movement was to get people away from fast food and encourage them to prepare meals at home using fresh, local foods free of preservatives and chemical substances (Biraivar, 2010)
There are many disadvantages to eating fast food and many advantages to eating “Slow food”.
