Journey Towards Integral Health
The journey towards integral health goes beyond the concept of mere physiological health, it is a much deeper than just our physical bodies. To achieve true health, peace, happiness and wholeness we must look inward to our minds and heart as well. To travel on the path to integral or optimal health one must be willing to focus on the body as a whole, finding balance physically, emotionally, and spiritually. This is not an easy road to travel and will take much dedication. It is a lifelong commitment and will continue to grow and develop stronger along the way. It is a journey worth taking; this is where true happiness, health and healing will be found (Elliott Dacher M.D., 2013).
To transform out health and life we must shift our focus inward developing our minds and further enhancing our spiritual being. We must stop looking for happiness through materialistic means, it cannot be found there. We must let go and rid our self of negative emotions that drain us of health and happiness.
One might ask how and where we begin this amazing journey. Elliot Dacher’s book Integral Health the Path to Human Flourishing is an excellent resource. The teachings and principles within this book is a road map of sort for this journey. While on this journey it will be important to use the skills that have been outlined and to seek out ways to further develop ourselves psychologically, spiritually and physically. (Elliott Dacher M.D., 2013)
I have provided a link at the bottom of this page to a personal look at my journey towards integral health. On this journey I have evaluated my physical, psychological, and spiritual development. I personally feel these are areas that will always have room for improvement; they need to be nurtured so they can continue to grow and develop. I have also assessed each of these areas ranking my development of each area on a scale of 1-10 (1 needing the most improvement). When we take the time to assess each of these domains we are able to get a clearer picture. We can determine which areas we have the most knowledge in, which area we spend the most time developing, and which needs the most attention. Once you have made this assessment you are able to take the necessary steps needed to enrich the areas of most need. One of the most important steps on this journey is to set physical, emotional, and spiritual goals that will help develop and foster growth in these areas. It will be important to outline exactly how you plan on achieving the goals that are set, what you can do to further the development, and how you will measure progress. Journaling is an excellent practice that can help with this.
Integral health does not have to be something that is unattainable; everyone has the ability to achieve it depending on your desire, commitment, and willingness for change. The end result will be health, happiness, and wholeness. For more information on Integral Health I encourage you to visit Elliott Dacher.org at: http://www.elliottdacher.org/integral-health1.html
